Okay guys,
In theory the numbers for the Varadero are as follows:
450amp Max Current (controller)
72v Max Voltage (batteries)
450 X 72 = 32,400 watts or 32.4kw.
Expressed as HP we have 1,000 watts = 1.341 horsepower.
In THEORY (and I know there are other factors involved here) the Varadero has a MAXIMUM potential HP of 43.45hp
Now come the other factors…
LEM 200 - D127
Motor is limited by the amount of current that can be allowed to pass through it, 250amps peak (72X250 = 18kw or 24hp), 200amps continuous (72X200 = 14.4kw or 19.31hp).
On the info from LEMCO the rated power for the motor is 12.56kw (16.84hp) but the Peak power is 15.77kw (21.14hp)
…so the maximum power that the Varadero can output is 21.15hp. Cruisin' along she should be able to sit nicely at 16.84hp, or at least that's how I understand it.
Question, do you guys reckon that the 450amp controller is too overpowered for this motor? Should I restrict the output to 250amps then? Or will the LEMCO take the full 450amps in very short bursts.
The only reason I am asking this is because there are a few bikes out there with large amp controllers running way above 200amps! :)
