i am a dirt bike rider i ride mini bikes or pit bikes they are powerd by 9-14 bhp 4 stroke the bikes weigh about 75kilos the aim is to put an electric motor and batteries with equivilent to 20plus bhp and capable of running for 30 minutes and race against petrol pitbikes
my local council have asked me to develope an electric motor to replace petrol engined pitbikes which are causing noise isues in my home town.i work in the electronics industry as a protype wireman, i have built battery packs and complex wiring for military aircraft. i have done a bit of research this is where i am :

Controler the 500 amp Kelly controler with regen
Batterys i would like to use A123 is there a problem getting these ? lifebats are my other option but their pre made packs wouldent be suitable for my project because of their size, i happy to make up my own packs from indevidual cells
8 cells in parallel with each of the sell groupes, and 22 sell groups in series for a 72 volt pack, with A123 this would give me 960 AMPS with other batteries may be 400 amps are the figures i have been given
BMS does this bit of kit have to be attached to the batteries all the time or just for recharging ? is it possable to monitor every indevidual cell?
i need to get this project going, i have a donner bike and am exstreamly greatfull for any help i can get
