LiFeBATT Electric Drag Racer

LiFeBATT Drag Racer on starting line

Today we raced, and WON!

Our final and winning quarter mile time was 14.998 and 94mph. Making us the fastest electric vehicle at the Alternative Energy Drag Racing Event, held at Santa Pod.

Our hopes for going even faster were dashed when we couldn't swap out the rear sprocket for a more suitable size, all because our chain was too short. If we had be able to get the bigger sprocket on, we could have been in the 12's, as we were slow off the line but powered through the final half of the track.

We got 438A for our 16Ah 144V X-1PT cells, before we hit the LVC and although we did have a over temperature problem and managed to kill one cell (very high resistance) the pack performed great considering they had only had 2 cycles before we raced.

The pack will now be rebuilt with a further 48 cells, so we can peak at 600A at our next event in July. Also a UK land speed record in September, if we can get FIA approval! We were told, by the on site FIA rep, that unofficially we are already the fastest electric motorcycle in the UK.

I think I have been bitten by the Drag Racing bug!
